How does a Solar Power purchase agreement work in South Africa?

Discover how our no-capex PPA lets you swap Eskom bills for predictable, low-cost power.

You’re locked into Eskom’s endless rate hikes—and it’s draining your profits.

Your electricity costs have jumped by over 20% in the past two years. Unpredictable Eskom bills eat into your cash flow, making budgeting a nightmare.
Without a fixed-rate alternative, your bottom line remains exposed to every tariff increase—undermining growth and planning.

That’s why we believe every South African business deserves energy certainty—and a PPA is the simplest way to get it.

We design, finance, and manage your entire solar system under a Power Purchase Agreement—so you pay only for the energy you use, with no upfront capital. Our in-house experts handle permits, installation, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring seamless performance.
And because we shoulder all operational risk, you enjoy predictable pricing and continuous 24/7 monitoring, backed by a 10-year swap-out warranty—so you can focus on running your business, not your solar panels.

And we can do the same for you.

A solar PPA is a financial agreement where a third-party developer installs, owns, and maintains a solar system on your property. You purchase the electricity generated at a fixed rate, usually lower than utility rates, for a set period (often 10–25 years).

Benefits include no upfront costs, professional maintenance, predictable energy costs, and immediate savings on electricity bills. The provider handles installation and system upkeep.

Savings depend on your current electricity rates, system size, and contract terms, but many users save 10–30% on their electricity bills compared to utility rates.

Most PPAs last between 10 and 25 years. The contract outlines the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh), escalation rates, and responsibilities for both parties.

The PPA provider is responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and insurance for the solar system throughout the contract term.

At the end of the contract, you may have the option to extend the agreement, purchase the system at a fair market value, or have the provider remove the system at no cost.

Many PPAs offer a buyout option, allowing you to purchase the system at a predetermined price or fair market value after a certain period.

What are the options if I sell my property or move during the PPA term?

Potential downsides include being locked into a long-term contract, possible escalation clauses increasing rates, and complications if you sell your property.

The initial price is set in your contract, often below utility rates. Many PPAs include an annual price escalator (e.g., 2–3%) to account for inflation and rising energy costs.
